2. INSPECT HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID

Pre-procedure1

(a) Remove the filler plug and gasket from the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly.

Procedure1

(b) for PA10:

(1) Check that the hybrid transaxle fluid level is between 0 to 6 mm (0 to 0.236 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening.

NOTICE:

  • When inspecting the hybrid transaxle fluid, make sure that the Toyota Prius vehicle is level.
  • Be sure to directly check that the hybrid transaxle fluid level is within the specified range.
  • Driving the vehicle with an insufficient or excessive amount of hybrid transaxle fluid may damage the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
  • If the hybrid transaxle fluid was replaced or if hybrid transaxle fluid was added, make sure to recheck the hybrid transaxle fluid level after driving the Toyota Prius vehicle.

*a

for PA10: 0 to 6 mm (0 to 0.236 in.)

for PB10, PB12: 0 to 10 mm (0 to 0.394 in.)

(c) for PB10, PB12:

(1) Check that the hybrid transaxle fluid level is between 0 to 10 mm (0 to 0.394 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening.

Post-procedure1

(d) Check for leaks if the hybrid transaxle fluid level is low. (If there are no hybrid transaxle fluid leaks but the hybrid transaxle fluid level is low, add hybrid transaxle fluid.)

2. DRAIN HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID

(a) Remove the filler plug and gasket from the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly.

(b) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the drain plug and gasket from the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly and drain the hybrid transaxle fluid.

(c) Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install the drain plug and a new gasket to the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly.

Torque:

50 N·m {510 kgf·cm, 37 ft·lbf}

(d) Temporarily install the filler plug and gasket to the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

HINT:

Reuse the old gasket as the filler plug will be removed again.

3. ADD HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID

(a) Remove the filler plug and gasket from the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly.

for PA10: 0 to 6 mm (0 to 0.236 in.)

for PB10: 0 to 10 mm (0 to 0.394 in.)

(b) for PA10:

(1) Add hybrid transaxle fluid until the hybrid transaxle fluid level is between 0 to 6 mm (0 to 0.236 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening. [#]

Hybrid Transaxle Fluid Standard Capacity (for Reference):

3.0 liters (3.2 US qts, 2.6 Imp. qts)

NOTICE:

  • When adding hybrid transaxle fluid, make sure that the Toyota Prius vehicle is level.
  • Use TOYOTA GENUINE e-Transaxle Fluid TE.

Using hybrid transaxle fluid other than the above type may cause abnormal noise or vibration, or ultimately damage the transaxle of the vehicle.

  • Be sure to fully insert the filler nozzle into the filler plug opening.
  • Be sure to add hybrid transaxle fluid slowly. If hybrid transaxle fluid is added quickly, the hybrid transaxle fluid may hit internal parts and bounce back, resulting in hybrid transaxle fluid coming out of the filler plug opening.
  • Be sure to directly check that the hybrid transaxle fluid level is within the specified range.
  • Driving the Toyota Prius vehicle with an insufficient or excessive amount of hybrid transaxle fluid may damage the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

(2) After adding hybrid transaxle fluid, leave the vehicle for 30 seconds so that the hybrid transaxle fluid surface can become still again, and then check that the hybrid transaxle fluid level is between 0 to 6 mm (0 to 0.236 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening. (If the hybrid transaxle fluid level is low, repeat this procedure from step [#].)

NOTICE:

After adding hybrid transaxle fluid, make sure to check the hybrid transaxle fluid level.

(c) for PB10:

(1) Add hybrid transaxle fluid until the hybrid transaxle fluid level is between 0 to 10 mm (0 to 0.394 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening. [#]

Hybrid Transaxle Fluid Standard Capacity (for Reference):

3.7 liters (3.9 US qts, 3.3 Imp. qts)

(If the hybrid transaxle fluid level is low, repeat this procedure from step [#].)

NOTICE:

After adding hybrid transaxle fluid, make sure to check the hybrid transaxle fluid level.

(d) Temporarily install the filler plug and gasket to the hybrid Toyota Prius vehicle transaxle assembly.

HINT:
